chapter 11 blog

Advertising is the best way for products and companies to introduce and promote their product. There are several types of advertising for example there are commercials, billboards, newspaper and magazine ads, computer pop ups and product placement in television shows and movie. Product placement is having a company pay for their product to be shown or used in a move i.e cereal boxes in episodes of "Seinfeld".

Singers, rap artists, actors and actresses, athletes and political figures are used alot in promotion of a product to show the regular peron aka the consumer that these famous people use this product, why shouldn't I. For example Derek Jeter for Ford cars or Tiger Woods for Gillete.

Everywhere you look there is an ad trying to sell or influence you to buy their product over a rival companies product. Like when people were taking the pepsi challenge, pepsi was promoting their soft drink while bad mouthing and making coca cola look bad.

chapter 10 blog

With new technology there comes change in how books are purchased and read. Being able to purchase and read books online has deminished the actually physical act of buying a hard cover a paper cover book and sitting down and reading it. This is hurting book stores like Barnes and Noble and libraries all over the U.S.

With popular book series of the past becoming very popular movie series alot of people are just waiting for the movie to come out and saving time and not reading the book. For example the Harry Potter series, and the Narnia series. These are both very popular and high selling shows at the box office when they come out.

Personally i do not read books of any kind except for assignments, hardly ever for pleasure. For me when i'm relaxing i don't always like to strain my mind and have to use my imagination, I want to just look at the television or a computer screen and be entertained.

chapter 9 blog

Personally i really enjoy magazines not gossip just basically sports magazines like ESPN or Sports Illistrated. I dont care about the celebrity world and the latest whos dating who gossip but i guess this is what sells and is most popular overall. Its entertainment and thats what is bought at the news stands and if people see that these celebrities have flaws like every day regular people it makes them feel better about themselves.

Magazines are great for waiting rooms and things like that because if you have a variety of types every person can find something they can relate with. There are gossip, sports, cooking, cleaning, mens, womens, outdoors and shopping ads for peoples entertainment.

Basically to me magazines are great time consumers with a little insite and alot of intresting pictures that keep my attention long enough to get to my dentist appointment.

Chapter 8 blog

In my opinion news paper is on a steady decline to extinction. With an increase in technology and the conveinience of having the paper in the palm of your hand via your cell phone or ipad news paper is just not as popular. Not having to wait for the paper to be delivered or going to buy the paper is a benifit that having access to it on your phone or ipad provides.

Reading a paper takes time out of a persons day where as you only read what you want to when it is online and you dont have to spend time thumbing thrue the many pages of advertisements and things you do not want to read. And sometimes the paper can be very awkward the way it folds and is sometimes very frustrating.

In this day and age news is spread so fast that by the time the news paper comes out in the morning it is old news. Most die hard news paper lovers are of the older variety and thats because thats all they have known and most do not use modern technology like the younger generation does.

Lucas's Blog chapter 6

Cable television is an enormous step up and has changed the televison viewing world. What was origianally invented so people in rural parts of the country could watch the news becasue high mountains would block their signal has spread world wide and is now making a mass amount of money from cable subsribers. With every different cable provider there are different perks for signing up paying the monthly bill and most of time commiting to a contract with the provider.

Cable television provides hundreds of channels ranging from news, sports, cooking, music, movies, sitcoms, comedies, public access, weather, cartoons and reallity TV. This is one of the main reasons people subscribe to receive cable. Another reason is for strictly entertainment purposes and to not feel left out socially and missing out on something.

The advancments of cable televison also include HD telivision and in with some subscriptions there is a "start over" option which is being able to start over a show that has already started and watch it in full form with out a tivo or DVR.

Lucas's Blog chapter 5

Perosnally sitcoms are my second favorite form of television behind sports of course. I like the act of following a story line from week to week and getting so into the show that you sometimes feel a relationship or bond to the characters. Specifically i like "The Office" and when i was younger i enjoyed watching "Boy Meets World" both are and were popular sitcoms that were played every week on the same day and same time.

The viewing audience are the ones who choose what is on TV based on channel and show ratings that are accumulated throughout the seasons of the shows. Sitcoms are watched because they usually include comedy and some kind of conflict the actors need to resolve. They are popular because viewers can find relations to a charactor or relate there family activities to what the sitcom family does.

Sitcom shows have always been popular starting with "i love lucy" (1952-55; 1956-57) "the beverly hillbillies", " the andy griffith show" to seinfeld (1994-1998) and "the office". Aslong as there are family sitcoms and families watching these sitcoms they will star relevant and popular.

Lucas's Blog chapter 4

The way companys advertise has changed significantly in the last ten to fifteen years with the increase in technology. In the past the most popular forms of advertising were through radio commercials and on billboards. The advertisment world has recently switched from radio and billboard advertisements to television commercials and ads on popular websites because these are what are most frequantly viewed.

The biggest player in early advertisement was without a doubt Clear Channel Communications during the year of 1995 they only owned 39 radio stations which by law was all they could own but the telecommunications act of 1996 allowed them to buy and own as many as they wanted. By the year 2000 they had already owned over 1,000 stations and had eventually increased to over 1,200 stations, tripling the nearest competitor. They were also the wolrs largest billboard company the nations largest live music concert promoter, an operator of an athlete management firm owned 56 TV stations and an investor in 240 international radio stations.

Radio was the original advertising source because in the past that is all people had for entertainment besides a local news paper or a board game. There were radio shows that were anticapated and listened to at certain time on a sceduled day much like there are television shows sceduled for our entertainment.
